ETHICS & SUSTAINABILITY

A note from owner Lucy

When I first entered the fashion world it was very much about the glamour, trends and seasons. As time went on my perspective changed and I wasn't sure I wanted to be a part of something that was just churning out "fast fashion" at the expense of people and the environment. It really made me question who I was and the contribution that I was making to the world.

After taking a step back from the industry I found that I am truly happy when I am creating but felt I needed to find a way to do this in a way that was more positive for our environment and where possible was able to give back in some way.

Every ANKOA piece is unique, we do not mass produce nor do we have seasons, each piece is made to "sustain" the test of time. We use natural fibres where possible with a huge focus on hand blocked Indian cottons. Our pieces are made in our Australian studio or made within a small community workshop in India. Sustainable every step of the way, we work closely with the artisans with a focus on lifting them from poverty & giving them skills to be self sufficient.

We are by no means perfect and will continue to look for further avenues to create as sustainably and ethically as possible. Please join us on this journey as we embrace "slow fashion".
